Williams Center

University of Wisconsin Whitewater

The Williams Center is UW-Whitewater’s main indoor athletic complex, with gymnasiums, indoor volleyball and racquetball courts, swimming pool and an extensive fitness center.

The university brought in Lewis Sound and Video to provide the systems they needed for commentary and announcements during sporting events plus music played when the rooms are open to the public for exercise.

We did all of the system design, engineering, project management and installation.

The largest system, in the Williams Center field house, includes:

  • Peavey Media Matrix digital signal processing and management to provide extensive audio zoning and room configuration capabilities
  • 48 JBL 15″ loudspeakers mounted in the ceiling in a distributed configuration fed by 12 Crown amplifiers
  • Audio-Technica UHF frequency-agile wireless mic systems

Smaller systems in the weight room, volleyball courts, and swimming pool include Peavey X-Frame DSPs, overhead distributed zoned speaker systems, Crown amplifiers and Audio-Technica wireless mics. The system in the volleyball court is linked with the field house, so athletes or performers warming up in the court area can hear what’s going on in the field house.
