When we finished installing new sound systems in two ballrooms at the Four Points Sheraton near Milwaukee’s international airport, management was surprised and pleased at how good they sounded. That’s because at Lewis Sound we normally go through the full computerized design and tuning process on new sound system, just as we would with a concert hall. We were also careful to limit access to key adjustment functions, to help keep the systems sounding good.

The New Orleans Ballroom offers 7,900 square feet of meeting space, dividable into three separate meeting areas. We installed:

• A three-zone room combining system based on a Peavey XFrame Media Matrix digital signal processor. The XFrame allowed us to provide a very cost-effective combining system with several high- end features to produce a very rich sound.
• Three Peavey XControl wall panels, which allow hotel guests to turn background music on and off, control volume levels and control local inputs.
• 24 JBL Control 26 full-range speakers installed in the ceiling
• A QSC 4-channel power amplifier
• Three Shure SCM 268 audio mixers
• Four microphone inputs per section plus auxiliary inputs
• Multiple background music sources
• Power processing to safeguard against fluctuations.

The Mardi Gras Ballroom offers guests a single, 36′ x 75′ meeting space where we installed a sound system with:

• 12 JBL Control 26DT full-range ceiling speakers
• A Shure DFR11 digital equalizer and Shure mixer
• A Peavey integrated amplifier
• Furman power processing.

We used Control 26DTs speakers in this older ballroom because they allowed us to use the existing backboxes and grills. Thus we were able to install them without making any changes to the aesthetics of the ceiling, keeping costs low and disruptions to the hotel at a minimum.
