The century-old Pfister Hotel offers gracious service and impeccable style. Sound quality must be extremely high, yet high tech equipment cannot interfere with the aesthetics of the building.

• Sound reinforcement and room combining systems in the Grand Ballroom, Imperial Ballroom and other meeting rooms on the hotel’s seventh floor.
• Background music systems in the ballrooms, meeting rooms and first floor lobby.
• Paging systems in the ballrooms, meeting rooms and lobby.

One challenge was the ornate ceiling in the Imperial Ballroom. Property managers asked Lewis if there was a way to avoid using conventional speaker grills, and so we came up with innovative enclosures that fit in with the room’s aesthetics. “If you walked into the ballroom you wouldn’t even know where the speakers are,” says Susan Lewis.

The Pfister’s seventh floor meeting spaces are combinable with each other, the ballrooms and the floor’s lobby areas. Lewis Sound built the room combining systems around an IRP System 41 cardframe, a modular device customized with plug-in cards that carry a matrix switcher, equalizers and other devices. We also designed graphic control panels for each room that simplify day to day operations, in particular the otherwise complex combining system.
